Forever Flowers vs Preserved Flowers vs Fresh: Which Should You Choose?

Three kinds of flowers, three very different lifespans. Here is how they compare on looks, lasting, care and cost, so you can pick the right one for the occasion.

The three kinds, in one minute

Fresh flowers are cut from the plant and sold within days. They are alive, fragrant and short-lived: about 5–10 days with water changes, less in Malaysian heat.

Preserved flowers start as real flowers, then have their sap replaced with a glycerine solution and are often dyed. They keep a real flower’s texture for one to three years, but are fragile, expensive, and sensitive to humidity – which is a problem here.

Forever flowers are lifelike artificial flowers made from fabric and polymer, shaped and coloured to match the real thing. They do not wilt, fade quickly or react to humidity, and with light dusting they keep their look for years.

Which to give as a gift

If the moment is the gift – a dinner tonight, a hospital visit, a scent in the room – fresh flowers are right. If you want the gift to still be there next year, on a shelf or a desk, choose forever flowers: they arrive assembled, travel well by courier (fresh flowers do not), and need nothing from the recipient. Preserved flowers sit in between, and need a dry, air-conditioned spot to stay good.

Which to use at home

For a dining table, console, entryway or office, forever flowers win on practicality: one arrangement, chosen for the spot, that looks the same every day. Many people keep one fresh posy by the bed for scent and let forever flowers do the rest of the house. See the arrangements by room, or read which flowers suit a living room.

Common Questions

Are preserved flowers real?

Yes. They are real flowers treated with glycerine and often dyed so they keep their shape for a year or more. They are delicate, dislike humidity, and cost more than fresh.

Do forever flowers fade?

Strong direct sunlight fades any colour over time, so keep them out of the afternoon sun. In ordinary indoor light they keep their colour for years.

Which lasts longest?

Forever flowers. A preserved arrangement is good for one to three years in a dry room; a well-made artificial arrangement, dusted now and then, lasts far longer.

Which is better for sending to Singapore or East Malaysia?

Forever flowers. They travel by courier without damage and arrive as they left; fresh flowers do not survive a multi-day journey.

Forever flowers that arrive assembled and stay that way.
